If you have thick granite that is treated with a sealant that protects it from high heat, you can put your pan right on top of the countertop. However, if the sealant is wearing thin, or the granite is thinner it can crack the counter or leave a mark. I can take a red hot pan right off the gas stove, or out of a hot oven, and put it directly on my granite countertops without any concern, and not a second thought.


I can cut anything directly on the countertop without any impact to the countertop –though it would dull my knives, so I don’t do it very often! Of course you can - but ceramic that is not bullnose may not give your job a finished appearance.
