Can you change the color of granite

Granite is natural stone and best not painted. It will not adhere and if you do not like the color , think about changing the wall color or even the cabinet color to change the look of the granite and compliment it more. Decorate around a too-dark or too-light countertop. Simply repainting the walls or refinishing the wooden cabinets can dramatically change the look of the granite counter.

Or perhaps you are looking for granite tile and due to the variation in natural stone, some of the tiles are dark and others a lighter color. The good news is there is a solution! It is possible to stain stone to a darker color on certain granite colors. The one I will be demostrating will be the Antique Brown color.


At least, they know the proper way of using the color enhancing sealers and achieve the look you want for your countertop. Maybe a darker color bathroom vanity would better complement the granite? Some granites won’t change color at all, and these do not need any sealant. In fact, if the surface of the stone is so smooth that it won’t absorb water, it won’t absorb any sealant, either, and applying it when unnecessary could make your granite look cloudy. Before we can know the difference between a granite countertop sealer and a stone color enhancer, we must know the definition of each one.


A sealers main job is to prevent liquids from penetrating into the stone. A color enhancers main job is to change the look of your stone. Gel coat is easily tinte and you can use gel coat to create a new finish and change the color of a marble or cultured marble surface.


While using gel coat is not difficult, achieving a perfectly smooth surface requires some skill. New back splashes can change the focal point. Contact a granite company to see if they can remove the tops and give you credit for new ones.


If you have a basement that you plan to finish, or wish to have an outside kitchen, remove the tops use them there and put new ones in. Paint with strokes parallel to the countertop length for a consistent visual appearance. Apply a second coat of melamine paint to create a streak-free finish with additional depth of color. If you are that unhappy with the color and cannot afford to change to a completely different granite , check locally for some of the places that do granite laminate tops. They are a thin veneer of granite or granite look-a-likes that are out now.
